Auto Technician III

Job Description

• Consults with foreman/lead technician to collect information on vehicle history, problem with the vehicle, and/or known maintenance or repairs required.

• Completes necessary diagnostic actions required to duplicate customer concern/complaint and follows diagnostic troubleshooting procedures including but not limited to guided component tests, wiring schematics, technical service bulletins, recalls, etc.

• Identifies mechanical problems visually and/or with computer diagnostic equipment.

• Performs tests on specific parts and systems to determine whether they are operating properly.

• Examines critical parts and systems using standard checklists.

• Enter parts and notes on customer invoices.

• Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.

• Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.

• Conducts post-repair testing that remedies customer complaint/concern listed above.

• Test drives vehicle to confirm proper operation, that repairs have been made properly, and that problems have been resolved.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Master technician certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence or equivalent required.

• 5+ years of related experience required

• Clear MVR

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

• Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.

• Proficient with planning work, selecting proper tools, using computer diagnostic equipment, and software.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.

• Ability to read service and repair manuals and work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.

• Ability to read work orders, rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.

• Ability to perform repairs and perform quality checks in a timely fashion.

• Perform a variety of duties that may change often.

• Ability to operate equipment is desired.
