(Distribution and Transmission Line Construction Projects)

 

Job Summary:

Estimators are responsible for creating, organizing, and completing cost analysis and estimates for distribution and transmission line construction projects with a focus on distribution lines. This position will require close coordination and constant communication with the pre-construction and operations teams.  Typical projects include distribution system installation, relocation and replacement projects in public and private right-of-way easements. Estimators are expected to have the ability to work independently.

 

Responsibilities:   Get ready to think outside the box, work smarter not harder, and shine bright!

  • Review RFP packages provided by customer.
  • Review and align work requirements with area operations management.
  • Contact suppliers for pricing.
  • Prepare take-offs, staking sheets and preliminary schedules.
  • Analyze drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Conduct visits to job sites as needed.
  • Inform others within the department of project status and current assignments.
  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers.
  • Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimate information used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Train and mentor junior estimators.

 

Required Qualifications:

·       Minimum of +2 years’ experience estimating distribution line construction projects.  

·       Advanced understanding of estimating fundamentals.

·       Ability to read and understand construction contracts and drawings.

·       Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills.

·       Must be able to work efficiently with tight deadlines.

·       Ability to factor in potential risk factors such as terrain, weather, labor availability, equipment availability, material availability and overall difficulty of the proposed work scope.

·       Must be willing to occasionally travel throughout our company’s footprint for pre-bid meetings, site walks, and active job site visits.

·       Must have a general understanding of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit Price bids.

·       Knowledge of computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency.

·       Working knowledge of estimating software programs (B2W Estimate is recommended)

·       High commitment to achieving goals and plans.

  • Must possess the ability to work closely with diverse groups of people, including company employees at all levels, area contractors, owners, suppliers and other outside professionals with whom the company deals with on a regular basis.
  • Willingness and desire to learn, develop new skills, and build teams.
