CORPORATE SAFETY DIRECTOR
The purpose of the Corporate Safety Representative is to provide overall guidance and leadership to the Company with the goal to continually improve the safety performance of the company. The position will report to the President and the Safety Committee.
Essential Responsibilities
• Establish and nurture the company safety CULTURE.
• Fully understand all applicable safety rules, regulations, and requirements to include OSHA, MSHA and client specific requirements and serve as the subject matter expert for the company.
• Understand the capabilities of all site safety representatives and field engineers and provide input as to assignments for each.
• Directly manage the Site Safety Representatives and Corporate Safety Manager.
• Work closely with Operations to ensure implementation of Robinson Construction safety policies.
• Understand client specific requirements and coordinate with site leadership to ensure compliance.
• Conduct weekly meetings with site leaders and provide oversight and guidance to ensure full compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Document the agenda and the minutes.
• Clarify safety rules, provide technical expertise, and provide solutions to safety challenges.
• Work with site leaders to develop safe work plans to effectively execute the work in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations as well as industry best practices.
• Make regular site visits across the country to meet with site leaders and client representatives to monitor compliance and maintain client relations.
• Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe activities through safety management and collaboration with other operations supervisory personnel.
• Meet with client representatives to address concerns and maintain client relations as needed.
• Meet with governmental officials as needed and attend inspections and visits when applicable.
• Provide guidance and assistance in administering the company progressive disciplinary policy with respect to safety.
• Represent the company when meeting with clients, insurance representatives, governmental officials, employees, and the general public.
• Manage employee injuries to include healthcare, recovery, follow up appointments, return to work, workers compensation, etc.
• Leads and collaborates with team in investigating all safety incidents to determine cause, implements corrective actions, and reports incidents, as required.
• Respond to incidents with urgency and make unexpected site visits when required.
• Prepare Toolbox Talks and assign to project leaders.
• Conduct employee training at periodic company meetings and at the various jobsites when required.
• Assist in the implementation and execution of the company substance abuse program.
• Manage employee assistance needs relative to the company substance abuse program.
• Maintain records of employee safety training.
• Maintain relationships with vendors for current safety solutions.
• Obtain assistance of safety vendors for necessary training.
• Monitors, educates, and trains employees on health and safety related issues.
• Attends and actively engages in all site and corporate meetings to promote safety.
• Ensures required equipment training is conducted and documented.
• Assist with the maintenance of the company ratings with industry organizations such as ISN.
• Train and acclimate site safety representatives to the assigned projects.
• Stay informed of industry trends and current topics and provide guidance and advice for development and revision of company policy.
• Maintain records for governmental agencies as well as clients, to include OSHA, MSHA, ISN, Avetta, and BioSite.
• Oversee company wide safety training program.
Work Location
• It is expected that this position works from the Perryville, MO office and reports there daily except when traveling to the various jobsites.
• This position will make regular visits to the various jobsites.
• Jobsite visits will also be required in response to incidents or other emergencies.
Education/Experience
• Minimum ten years’ experience as a Safety Manager or Safety Representative in a construction environment and an Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on construction management, construction safety or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CHST preferred.
• Minimum OSHA 510 required; OSHA 500 preferred
• MSHA trainer certification preferred
• TWIC card preferred
• Candidate must have at least one current safety certification such as CHST, ASP, or CSP
• Willing to participate in continuing education and career development
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
• Knowledge of computers, software applications (including MS Office), database management and learning management systems
• Ability to organize training sessions for individuals and large groups of participants.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties as staffing needs change rapidly
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to effectively read and interpret information, and skillfully gather and analyze information.
• Ability to work successfully as a team and independently with moderate supervision.
• Ability to communicate, must have proficient writing and editing skills in order to communicate ideas and concepts clearly and accurately.

• Working over 40 hours per week may be required
