SUMMARY
Substation Technicians I, under close supervision, must be willing and able to perform all difficult
tasks and assist others in high and low voltage work involved in the construction and maintenance of electric transmission and distribution conductors, structures, substations, underground systems, and related equipment.
· Promote reliability and performance of electrical distribution systems
· Inspecting, testing, and maintaining electrical equipment and devices, analyzing and determining the presence of any adverse conditions
· Documenting and reporting test results and taking appropriate corrective actions
· Read blueprints and technical diagrams, test and maintain wiring, controls, and power distribution systems, and inspect and test electrical components such as transformers and circuit breakers
· Identify electrical problems using various testing devices and repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools, power tools, aerial lifts, and platforms
· Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices
· Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools, power tools, aerial lifts, and platforms
· Ability to use standard and/or metric rule to measure.
· Perform transmission and distribution switching
· Operate Company’s vehicles and equipment
· Execute and complete all other duties assigned by supervisors
· Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Substation Technician
· Must be able to assess through Burns and McDonnell assessment program
· Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull
· Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment
· Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses.
· Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates.
· Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.
· Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
· Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 60 pounds
· Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time
· Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment
· Ability to seek advice, make decisions, exercise sound judgement, and solve problems
· Ability to work under stressful situations
· Ability to learn and adopt new processes and technology
· Ability to apply verbal and/or written instructions or other information
