Job Description

FOREMAN, T&D 

 

SUMMARY 
The T&D (Transmission & Distribution) Foreman provides direct field leadership and oversight for a crew engaged in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems. This role is responsible for the daily planning, execution, and performance of a T&D line crew, ensuring that power line infrastructure is built or upgraded safely, to utility standards, and on schedule. 

 

DUTIES 

  • Provide direct supervision and direction to a crew of Linemen and groundmen, ensuring project goals for safety, quality, and productivity are achieved. 

  • Develop and implement daily and weekly work plans for the crew, based on the overall project schedule. 

  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for the assigned crew, liaising with the General Foreman, project management, and utility representatives as needed. 

  • Oversee the crew's construction activities, ensuring compliance with critical safety procedures for energized work, minimum approach distances, and system outages. 

  • Lead the crew in safe work practices, driving a culture of safety by conducting daily safety briefings, performing safety audits, and ensuring rigorous adherence to all OSHA and utility-specific safety rules. 

  • Track and report on crew performance, productivity, and progress. 

  • Ensure the crew is equipped with the necessary tools and specialized T&D equipment (e.g., bucket trucks, digger derricks), and is responsible for its proper use and maintenance. 

  • Take responsibility for the quality and reliability of the work performed by the crew. 

  • Mentor and develop journeymen and apprentices within the crew. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned   

  • Complies with all policies and standards   

 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience  

  • Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company’s vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy. 

  • Must be able to assess through the Burns and McDonnell assessment program. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull. 

  • Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment. 

  • Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses. 

  • Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates. 

  • Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. 

  • Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

  • Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 50 pounds. 

  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment.
