Job Description

GENERAL FOREMAN, T&D 

 

SUMMARY 

The T&D (Transmission & Distribution) General Foreman provides senior-level leadership and oversight for all construction and maintenance activities related to overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems. This role is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and performance of T&D operations, ensuring power line infrastructure is constructed, upgraded, and maintained safely, efficiently, and in accordance with utility and project requirements. 

 

DUTIES 

  • Provide overall supervision and direction to T&D Foremen, Linemen, Groundmen, and craft personnel, ensuring project goals for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule are achieved. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all transmission and distribution construction activities, including overhead and underground line installation, reconductoring, pole replacements, substation support, maintenance, and system upgrades. 

  • Develop and implement work plans, manpower strategies, and resource allocations to support project schedules and milestones. 

  • Serve as the primary field point of contact for T&D operations, coordinating with project management, engineering, utility representatives, landowners, and client representatives. 

  • Oversee major T&D construction activities, including energized work, outage coordination, line stringing, pole setting, equipment installation, and system commissioning support. 

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with utility standards, project specifications, applicable regulations, drawings, and company quality standards. 

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all OSHA requirements, utility safety rules, minimum approach distances, grounding procedures, switching operations, and site-specific safety requirements. 

  • Monitor productivity, manpower utilization, and project progress, implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain schedule and budget objectives. 

  • Coordinate specialized equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioning equipment, pulling equipment, and workforce requirements across multiple work locations to maximize efficiency. 

  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities for Foremen, Leadmen, Linemen, Groundmen, and craft personnel. 

  • Support project planning, forecasting, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

  • Perform spotter, fire watch, and flagger duties as required to support safe work operations and compliance with site safety requirements. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • Comply with all policies and standards. 

 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience 

  • Must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company’s vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy 

  • Must be able to assess through Burns and McDonnell assessment program 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, or reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, push and pull 

  • Ability to use repetitive hand motions and the ability to grasp and operate field tools and equipment 

  • Ability to climb on, in or through equipment in confined spaces and elevated work using fall protection harnesses. 

  • Ability to work long hours with infrequent days off, night shifts, and in adverse climates. 

  • Ability to use respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. 

  • Ability to utilize vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

  • Ability to lift, carry and or move up to 50 pounds 

  • Ability to work in an environment with loud noises and vibrations for extended periods of time 

  • Ability to properly wear and/or use Personal Protection Equipment
