Position Title: Metal Mechanic 

Position Reports To: Foreman 

 Position Summary 

A Metal Mechanic must be able to apply, eliminate, and fix protecting material to uncovered surfaces or designs, for example, air conduits, hot or cold lines, stockpiling tanks, boilers and structures to assist with controlling commotion and keep up with temperatures. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Follow verbal directions as required to perform duties and responsibilities as listed below.    

  • Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks.    

  • Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb.    

  • Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time.   

  • Clean up of work area, supplies, materials, and equipment.   

  • Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman with regard to issues and concerns on the job site.   

  • Responsible for ensuring that work continues in the Foreman’s absence.   

  • Comply with all Apache and client safety policies and programs.   

  • Maintain a reliable attendance records  

  • Work unsupervised in an efficient and effective manner. 

  • Always maintains a clean and safe work environment  

  • Able to wear all required PPE 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Education & Experience 

  • Minimum 2-3 years of insulation experience 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Reads blueprints and selects required insulation material 

  • Ability to install insulation and metal on pipe and equipment. 

  • Able to demonstrate the installation, fitting, fabrication, and attachment of insulation, finishing, and weatherproofing materials to a high standard of workmanship. 

  • Able to choose the amount and type of insulation to be installed as well as a method of securing the insulation based on the type and shape of the surface. 

  • Capable of performing metal layout for ell, T’s, Gores, etc. 

  • The ability to remove or seal existing asbestos insulation 

  • The capacity to fully define insulating materials 

  • Prepare surfaces for the installation of metal jacketing by the use of hand and power tools. 

  • The ability to install vapor barriers and finish insulated surfaces by applying metal cladding, canvas, plastic sheeting, or cement. 

  • Ensuring good housekeeping is being performed throughout the entire project - inside & outside. 

  • Must maintain a positive attitude with crew members 

 

Work Conditions/Physical Demands   

  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.    

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.   

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.  

  • Must be able to work in high noise volumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, dusty conditions, hazardous machinery, precarious places, proximity to other employees.
