The Ironworker General Superintendent is responsible for monitoring projects from planning to completion, including tasks such as budgeting and scheduling. They follow quality standards and ensure the safety and security of the construction site. In addition, the Ironworker General Superintendent possesses a strong structural steel knowledge and steel erection background. They must have a deep understanding of field concepts, practices, and procedures in specified disciplines including preplanning and executing structural steel installation.
This role also communicates and negotiates with external partners, such as vendors and has other administrative duties, such as monitoring inventory of materials, purchasing supplies according to project requirements, developing reports, conducting inspections, and implementing safety and regulations.
· Lead and manage direct reports ensuring they are completely skilled to perform their duties (QA or otherwise).
· Manages complex logistics, including procuring materials and navigating space constraints as needed, to successfully complete projects amid concurrent construction of building.
· Able to supervise steel erection raising crews.
· Able to supervise structural steel erection and miscellaneous steel detail crews.
· Represents GS Steel in project meetings and promotes good customer and public relations.
· Coordinates with general contractor and project management to complete work per contract.
· Works with project management to create and execute on a detailed short interval schedule that outlines project activities on a day-to-day basis, as well as a 30-day look-ahead when applicable.
· Reviews project model/drawings/design to identify the optimum balance between schedule, cost, quality, function and aesthetics.
· Aids in creation of crane plan to ensure safe crane and hoisting operations on all projects regardless of who is performing work.
· Identifies Potential back charges and out-of-scope issues and reports to Construction Manager.
· Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management to direct reports.
· Responsible for the safety of assigned GS Steel personnel. Partners with the safety department to identify and resolve any risks that are inherent in the construction of the project striving for proactive and intentional leadership in a zero-injury safety culture.
· Informs team of equipment plan and schedules needed for work area of responsibility.
· Completes required paperwork and updates Smartsheet systems accordingly.
· Develops and monitors three-week look ahead schedule for assigned work scope.
· Develops corrective plan to ensure progress and productivity targets are met.

Directly supervises and mentors foreman/superintendents.
· 7-11 years of previous experience as a construction superintendent or in a similar role.
· In-depth understanding of structural steel erection construction operations and processes required.
· Excellent communication, planning, and execution skills required.
· Must be able to pass background and urinalysis tests.
· Ability to interpret blueprint drawings required.
· Proficient in all phases of industrial structural steel erection/detail.
· Ability to direct and lead crews to complete projects on time and on budget.
· Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites.
· Organizational and time-management skills.
· Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, Google Mail, Dropbox and Smartsheet.
· Ability to lead and inspire.
· NCCER certification for craft preferred.
· OSHA 30 required.
· Valid drivers’ license (with driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier) and ability to travel to/from and between projects.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The noise level in the work environment is always high.
Position often requires travel to the customer’s location and/or project sites and may require overnight stay.
