Boston, Massachusetts | On-Site
Base Salary: $144,000–$162,000
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead mechanical and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) maintenance operations at a large-scale, continuous-process industrial facility near Boston, Massachusetts.
This is a hands-on site leadership position for a maintenance professional who understands that safety, reliability, equipment availability, and operational performance are all connected. The successful candidate will lead maintenance teams, oversee work management and major outages, manage maintenance budgets, and develop both short- and long-term strategies to improve asset reliability.
Lead mechanical and E&I maintenance teams, including supervisors, planners, skilled craft personnel, and contractors.
Establish daily maintenance priorities in partnership with Operations.
Develop, coach, and evaluate team members while anticipating future staffing and skill requirements.
Own the maintenance work-management process, including work requests, backlog prioritization, job planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs and ensure effective utilization of the facility's CMMS.
Develop and manage annual and monthly maintenance budgets, cost controls, performance metrics, and a five-year maintenance strategy.
Lead spare-parts strategy and optimize labor and material utilization.
Plan and execute major plant outages, including scope development, scheduling, contractor coordination, safety, budget management, execution, and return-to-service activities.
Improve mechanical integrity and equipment reliability through inspections, failure analysis, preventive/predictive maintenance, and corrective action.
Identify and eliminate repeat equipment failures through root-cause and reliability-focused methodologies.
Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, EHS, Quality, Procurement, and corporate maintenance/reliability resources.
Support capital improvements, environmental performance, equipment upgrades, and safe-work initiatives.
Required experience includes:
5+ years of direct maintenance supervision within a waste-to-energy, power-generation, chemical-processing, or other substantial industrial/continuous-process facility.
Proven leadership of mechanical and E&I maintenance functions.
Demonstrated experience directing employees, developing teams, maintaining safety accountability, and partnering with plant Operations.
Strong background in maintenance planning, scheduling, preventive maintenance, work orders, backlog management, and CMMS-supported work management.
Significant experience planning and leading major plant outages, with direct responsibility for scope, schedule, contractors, costs, and execution.
Working knowledge of industrial electrical and instrumentation systems, including NEC and NFPA arc-flash practices.
Understanding of mechanical integrity, quality assurance, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvement methodologies.
Experience managing maintenance budgets and controlling costs while balancing immediate repairs with long-term reliability requirements.
The following would be valuable differentiators:
Direct experience in waste-to-energy or thermomechanical treatment facilities.
Experience with high-pressure steam, boilers, turbines, combustion systems, ash handling, or comparable industrial equipment.
Engineering degree or equivalent technical background.
Experience optimizing spare-parts inventories and maintenance materials.
Experience with RCFA, FMEA, Lean, Six Sigma, or other reliability/process-improvement methodologies.
A track record of measurable improvements in uptime, safety, outage performance, reliability, or maintenance costs.
Experience developing maintenance supervisors, planners, and skilled craft teams.
We are particularly interested in leaders who have personally owned plant maintenance operations, rather than professionals whose experience has been limited to facilities maintenance, commercial buildings, vehicle/mobile fleets, consulting, or individual-contributor engineering roles.
Your title is less important than your demonstrated ownership of:
People + Maintenance Planning + CMMS + Outages + Reliability + Budgets + Safety
We will look for specific examples of what you have personally led, changed, and improved.
This is an on-site industrial position in an active operating facility.
The role requires regular work in industrial areas that may involve:
Heights and climbing
Confined spaces
Temperature extremes
Dust and noise
Electrical and mechanical hazards
Lifting up to 50 pounds
Qualification for use of a full-face respirator
These requirements are part of the standard job-related process and will be evaluated as part of the hiring process.
Base Salary: $144,000–$162,000
This is the established working base-salary range for the position. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications and experience.
Any bonus, sign-on, relocation assistance, or additional benefits will be discussed only as applicable to the specific opening.
This is a highly visible plant leadership opportunity where your work will directly influence maintenance execution, equipment reliability, safety, outage performance, and long-term asset strategy.
You will have the opportunity to build and develop skilled mechanical and E&I teams while helping improve the reliability and performance of a complex industrial operation.
