TradeWise Staffing is seeking an experienced Traveling Construction Foreman to lead field crews performing structural steel erection and prefabricated cold-formed steel (CFS) framing installation on commercial, institutional, government, and federal projects.
This is a field leadership position that requires direct, hands-on experience with the type of work our crews perform. We are specifically looking for a foreman who has previously supervised crews performing structural steel erection and/or prefabricated light-gauge steel framing installation.
General construction supervision, industrial equipment installation, manufacturing, or facilities maintenance experience alone will not meet the requirements for this position.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on trade knowledge with proven crew leadership, strong layout skills, blueprint interpretation, production planning, and the ability to keep projects safe, organized, and on schedule.
Lead and supervise crews performing structural steel erection and prefabricated CFS/light-gauge steel framing installation.
Plan daily production and assign work based on project priorities, manpower, and schedule.
Maintain crew accountability, jobsite organization, productivity, and safety.
Read and interpret structural drawings, field drawings, construction details, and approved project plans.
Perform and verify accurate field layout before installation begins.
Verify that structural components, framing systems, connections, embeds, and related work meet approved drawings and specifications.
Identify discrepancies between field conditions and construction drawings before they cause delays or rework.
Coordinate with project managers, company leadership, and General Contractors regarding progress, field conditions, and schedules.
Identify and document out-of-scope work and communicate potential change-order conditions.
Anticipate material, hardware, tool, and equipment needs to prevent production delays.
Complete daily reports, timekeeping, photos, work orders, and project documentation using a company-provided tablet and Contractor Foreman.
Enforce OSHA and company safety standards.
Perform quality-control checks throughout installation.
Assist with steel erection, framing, welding, and other field work as needed.
Help mobilize crews between regional projects and maintain strong performance while traveling.
Minimum 5 years of construction foreman or equivalent crew-lead experience.
Direct, hands-on experience in structural steel erection and/or prefabricated cold-formed steel (CFS)/light-gauge steel framing installation.
Demonstrated experience directly supervising crews performing structural steel erection or CFS framing installation.
Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings, field drawings, and construction details.
Strong field layout skills, including verifying dimensions and identifying potential conflicts.
Proven ability to manage production, manpower, schedules, and jobsite priorities.
Strong communication skills with field crews, General Contractors, and project leadership.
Ability to anticipate material and equipment needs before they affect production.
Comfortable using tablets, mobile technology, and digital reporting systems.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively for regional project assignments.
Valid driver's license.
Must be willing to accept the established pay range of $27–$35 per hour. Compensation above $35 per hour is not available.
Candidates whose experience is limited to general construction management, industrial equipment installation, manufacturing, scaffolding, or facilities maintenance will not qualify without the required direct steel erection or CFS framing experience.
OSHA 30 certification.
Rigging and signaling certification.
Experience with prefabricated cold-formed steel framing systems, including panelized framing or prefabricated wall assemblies.
Commercial, government, federal, hospital, hotel, student-housing, or other large-project experience.
Welding experience.
AWS or other welding certification.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Note: Welding certification is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong welding experience may be evaluated and certified internally.
The strongest foremen are not simply skilled individual craftsmen. They know how to:
Stay ahead of the crew instead of constantly reacting to problems.
Delegate work effectively and hold employees accountable.
Maintain accurate layout and installation quality.
Communicate clearly with crews and project leadership.
Track production and protect project schedules.
Anticipate material and equipment needs.
Resolve field problems before they cause delays.
Step into the work when necessary without neglecting their supervisory responsibilities.
