Job Description

TradeWise Staffing Group is hiring two experienced Journeyman Welders for a commercial construction project in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This position focuses on structural steel field welding, bar joist installation, and metal decking. Candidates must have hands-on experience with structural steel welding on active construction sites. This is not a shop fabrication position.

Traveling candidates are encouraged to apply. Travel and lodging will be covered by the client.

Responsibilities

• Weld bar joists to supporting structural steel, including beams, girders, and bearing plates.

• Perform structural steel fit-up and welding according to blueprints and project specifications.

• Install, align, and secure roof and floor metal decking.

• Perform puddle welds and other specified decking attachments.

• Read and interpret structural blueprints and welding symbols.

• Prepare joints and inspect completed welds for quality.

• Coordinate with steel erection crews and foremen to meet project deadlines.

• Work safely at heights and in changing weather conditions.

• Follow fall protection, hot work, and OSHA steel erection safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of structural steel welding experience.

• 4G SMAW (Stick Welding) certification required.

• Hands-on field welding experience with structural steel.

• Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols.

• Experience with bar joists, beams, girders, bearing plates, or metal decking.

• Willingness to travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut, for the duration of the project.

• Ability to work 10-hour shifts and overtime.

• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Tools & PPE

Candidates must provide their own welding gear, including:

• Welding hood

• Welding apron

• Welding gloves

• Required welding equipment and standard PPE

Transportation & Travel Requirements

• This opportunity is intended for traveling welders from outside Connecticut. Local Connecticut candidates will not be considered.

• Travel and lodging are covered by the client.

• Due to limited vehicle access at the worksite, transportation will be arranged at the hotel.
