Job Summary
Matrix Service is currently looking for Tank Building Superintendents who have experience building aboveground storage tanks and specialty vessels. In this position, the Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing crews that, field erect, fit, weld, grind, and inspect aboveground storage tanks.
Essential Functions
- Actively supports the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”

- Plans and supervises work activities related to the building and erection of aboveground storage tanks.
- Determines method of construction, safety procedures and requirements, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, and work schedules for building or repairing aboveground ground storage tanks.
- Coordinates assigned work with different crafts, company departments, and/or other contractors.
- Maintains liaison with safety department, engineering, estimating and planning to ensure work complies with safety policies, drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Assemble and erect large complex aboveground storage tanks according to industry standards.
- Assists in resolving construction problems and safety issues, as required.
- Conducts accident investigations with the safety department, as required.
- Maintains communication with the HR Department to resolve issues of requisitioning required manpower.
- Monitors craft compliance with project safety program requirements. Documents and ensures corrective measures are implemented.
- Maintains liaison with other departments (Material Control, Purchasing, Quality Control, and Engineering) to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc., support craft activities and project schedule.
- Conducts field safety audits, as required, and maintains a complete understanding of the Corporate Safety Manual and requirements.
- Performs additional responsibilities, as directed.
Qualifications
- EXPERIENCE BUILDING/ERECTING ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANKS and/or Specialty Vessels IS REQUIRED for this role.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in building/erecting aboveground storage tanks leadership role.
- Experience in construction technology, methods, equipment, tools, and work procedures in building and erecting aboveground storage tanks
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supervising craft employees in aboveground storage tank building and erecting.
- Must be able to travel for short or extended periods of time as required.
- Proven understanding of tank construction scheduling and cost control.
- Demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize performance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; good computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
