Position Overview
The candidate must possess four years of naval shipyard experience as a first-class Welder.
Required Skills
- Welding Techniques: Proficient in multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds utilizing the following processes:
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)
- FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding)
- GMAW-P (Pulse Arc Welding)
- Heating Equipment: Experience with Oxygen/Propane Heating Torch.
- Physical Environment: Demonstrated ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including shipboard settings, sub-assemblies, ladders, and staging.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA regulations pertinent to the shipbuilding industry.
- Gouging Techniques: Proficient in Air Carbon Arc Gouging.
- Welding Gauges: Ability to properly utilize fillet and butt weld gauges.
Welding Qualification
All Welders are required to successfully pass all positions, multi-pass butt weld, and Welder Qualification Tests before commencing productive work. These assessments will adhere to MIL-STD-248D Paragraph 5.3.3 and include the following:
- All positions (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), and Overhead (4G)) SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) process.
- All positions (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), and Overhead (4G)) FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) process.
- Horizontal (2G) position GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) process.
- All positions (Horizontal (2G), Vertical (3G), and Overhead (4G)) GMAW-P (Pulse Arc Welding) process.
- Air Carbon Arc Gouging proficiency test.
