STRUCTURAL FLUX CORE WELDER

Job Description

 Tradesmen International is seeking experienced Structural Flux-Core Welders for a long-term shop fabrication project supporting large-scale data center construction.

This position focuses on welding light and heavy structural steel beams, columns, and assemblies in a fabrication shop environment. The ideal candidate will have strong Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) experience and a background in structural steel fabrication or heavy industrial welding.

Pay Rates

Welders will be classified based on experience, weld test results, and applicable WPS requirements:

  • Class A: $35/hour
  • Class B: $28/hour
  • Class C: $24/hour

Per Diem

  • $100/day, 7 days per week for eligible travelers.
  • Employees must work all available scheduled shifts to qualify for all seven days of per diem.

Available Shifts

Night Shift: 4:30 PM – 4:00 AM

Shifts are approximately 11–11.5 hours, with scheduling based on project requirements. Overtime and extended hours may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural steel welding in a fabrication shop environment.
  • Weld light and heavy beams, columns, and structural assemblies.
  • Perform FCAW/Flux-Core welding in accordance with project specifications.
  • Follow applicable Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Read and interpret structural drawings and welding symbols.
  • Perform groove and fillet welds to required quality standards.
  • Maintain production requirements while ensuring weld quality.
  • Inspect completed welds and make necessary corrections or repairs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Work extended shifts, weekends, and overtime as required by the project.

Required Weld Tests

All candidates must successfully pass:

  • 2G Flux-Core Weld Test
  • 2F Flux-Core Weld Test

Preferred Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience with structural steel fabrication.
  • Strong FCAW/Flux-Core welding experience.
  • Experience with heavy fabrication.
  • Experience welding beams, columns, and structural assemblies.
  • Proficiency with groove and fillet welds.
  • Experience working from WPS requirements.
  • Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
  • AWS or other recognized structural welding certifications are preferred.
  • Current or expired welding certifications are encouraged.

Work Environment

This is a physically demanding fabrication shop position requiring candidates to work extended shifts and maintain consistent production and quality standards. Candidates must be comfortable standing for extended periods and working around heavy steel, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery.
