Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Inside Machinist to perform mechanical machining, installation, repair, and maintenance work aboard vessels and in shipyard environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, aligning, repairing, and maintaining marine machinery and related mechanical systems while working safely and efficiently as part of a skilled trades team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine machinery and mechanical systems.

  • Install and align pumps, valves, shafts, bearings, couplings, reduction gears, and other shipboard equipment.

  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, and other measuring tools.

  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders as required.

  • Perform fitting, machining, boring, reaming, grinding, and related mechanical work.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, technical manuals, and work specifications.

  • Assist with machinery alignment, shaft work, bearing installation, and equipment repairs.

  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and identify causes of equipment failure.

  • Work in confined spaces, machinery spaces, tanks, and other shipboard environments.

  • Maintain accurate work records and complete required documentation.

  • Follow all company, shipyard, and safety procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an inside machinist, marine machinist, millwright, mechanic, or related trade.

  • Experience working on ships, boats, shipyards, or other industrial machinery is preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documents.

  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and mechanical hand tools.

  • Ability to perform accurate measurements and maintain close tolerances.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, machinery alignment, and rotating equipment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong commitment to quality, safety, and productivity.
