Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking experienced Marine Shipyard Welders to perform structural and pipe welding on commercial and naval vessels. Qualified candidates must have strong experience with SMAW and GTAW welding processes and be capable of performing high-quality welds in all positions and demanding shipboard environments.
This position requires experienced welders who can work safely and efficiently in confined spaces, on ladders and staging, and throughout shipboard and sub-assembly work areas.
Required Welding Experience
Candidates must have experience with:
- Multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
- Structural welding and shipboard fabrication
- Welding and fusing inserts
- Carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipe
- SMAW and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) processes
- All-position SMAW and GTAW welding
- Mirror welding using SMAW and GTAW
- Thin-wall socket welding, including joints with wall thicknesses below 0.187"
- Oxygen/propane heating torch operation
- Proper use of fillet gauges, butt gauges, and six-inch scales
- Preheat and inter pass temperature requirements
Shipyard Experience
Successful candidates will be comfortable working in physically demanding marine environments, including:
- Shipboard work areas
- Sub-assemblies
- Confined and restricted spaces
- Ladders and staging
- Elevated work areas
- Areas with varying temperatures and humidity
- Demanding production and repair environments
Candidates should have familiarity with OSHA regulations applicable to the shipbuilding industry and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial or naval welding experience
- Proven experience with SMAW and GTAW processes
- Experience performing all-position welding
- Structural and/or pipe welding experience
- Ability to perform multi-pass welds
- Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel materials
- Ability to perform mirror welding
- Ability to read and follow welding procedures and technical requirements
- Ability to use welding gauges and precision measuring tools
- Strong understanding of shipbuilding terminology and work practices
- Ability to pass required welding qualification and safety testing
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and workmanship
Additional Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Must successfully pass a hair follicle drug test.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position in a shipbuilding environment.
