Position Overview

We are currently hiring experienced Marine Pipefitters for ship repair and modernization projects in Newport News, VA. Qualified candidates will have 3+ years of experience as a First Class Pipefitter in marine, commercial nuclear, petrochemical, or chemical industries. Marine pipefitters will perform removal, repair, fabrication, installation, layout, and testing of piping systems aboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Remove, repair, fabricate, install, and test marine piping systems.
  • Install various sizes and types of pipe, fittings, supports, hangers, hydraulic cylinders, and related equipment.
  • Read and work from drawings, specifications, and job requirements.
  • Plan installations and repairs to avoid obstructions and coordinate work with other trades.
  • Repair and replace shipboard piping systems, including:
    • Auxiliary salt water
    • Fire main
    • Potable water
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Compressed air
    • Fuel oil
    • Lube oil
    • Engine exhaust
    • Other marine piping systems
  • Bend, cut, thread, shape, fit, fabricate, and install pipe.
  • Perform pipe layout and fabrication.
  • Operate shop equipment including pipe threading machines, bending machines, drill presses, table saws, and brazing equipment.
  • Perform pressure testing of piping systems.
  • Check and adjust controls, gauges, and valves to properly regulate flow and pressure.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Follow all shipyard, OSHA, and company safety requirements.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of First Class Pipefitter experience
  • Marine shipyard experience strongly preferred
  • Commercial nuclear or petrochemical/chemical pipefitting experience may be considered
  • Strong pipe fabrication, layout, installation, and repair skills
  • Ability to work aboard ships and in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and piping layouts
  • Must be able to pass required pre-employment screening

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Must successfully pass a hair follicle drug test
