Job Description:
We are currently seeking highly skilled 1st Class Shipfitters to join our team at a commercial shipyard in Erie, PA. As a Shipfitter, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing structural components on commercial ships, focusing on commercial ship repair and maintenance.
- Fabricate and install structural components, bulkheads, and other ship structures according to technical drawings and specifications
- Conduct hull repairs, install shipboard equipment, and make modifications to ship structures as needed
- Utilize oxy-acetylene cutting torches and other equipment to cut and shape metal materials with precision
- Demonstrate high competency and safe practices in operating a cutting torch, ensuring adherence to safety protocols
- Collaborate with engineering teams and other departments to coordinate ship fitting projects effectively
- Ensure the structural integrity and quality of ship components and installations
- Proven experience as a 1st Class Ship Fitter in a commercial shipyard, specializing in ship repair and maintenance
- Journeyman level skills in oxy-acetylene cutting torch operation, with a strong emphasis on safety and proficiency
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for accurate fabrication and assembly
- Knowledge of shipbuilding materials, techniques, and methods used in marine construction
- Physical ability to work in a shipyard setting, maneuver heavy materials, and perform shipfitting tasks effectively
- Certification or training in shipfitting and welding is a plus
Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Hours: 60+/week
