Industrial Journeyman Rodbuster

Position Summary:

Industrial Journeyman Rodbusters (Reinforcing Ironworkers) will carry, hoist, and place all required reinforcing, including rebar, wire mesh, and post tension using Rodbuster's hand tools conforming to construction documents including shipping and construction drawings, bar tags and cut sheets. May also be required to assist in constructing concrete formwork, pour and finish concrete, and perform other necessary duties on site as well to assist in completing the project.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years Industrial Construction Experience
• Minimum of 2 years Industrial Journeyman Rodbuster Experience
• Must be able to read and interpret prints, drawings, rebar cut-sheets, and plans
• Knowledge of Industrial Rodbuster/Rebar hand tools, power tools and layout tools
• Required to have all Rodbuster/Rebar hand tools and be experienced with related power tools
• Knowledge of rebar and wire mesh sizes, various types of ties to facilitate construction as well as rebar installation means and methods.
• Must be able to meet all physical demands and pre-employment conditions
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must be able to work up to 7 days per week and the hours necessary in order to achieve the goals of the company and the project

Position Responsibilities:

• Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and responsible manner

• Ensures that any unsafe acts or conditions are reported to your immediate supervisor immediately to avoid accident or injury
• Must work efficiently, productively, and safely without error and consistently meet the productions goals as set by the Foreman, Superintendent or Project Manager.
• Examines blueprints, sketches, building plans and specifications to determine dimensions of structure and material required
• Must have knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction
• Performs daily inspection of each tool or piece of equipment that they operate to ensure that the tools and equipment are safe and fit for duty; prior to utilizing the equipment
• Inspects, examines, selects, and gathers materials and tools
• Inspects all designated work areas for hazards and obstructions
• Uses crane/rigging hand signals to rig, load, transport, and unload material and/or equipment
• Measures and marks layout and placement lines on material such as seal slabs, formwork, or rebar
• Uses rebar hand tools such as rebar side cutting pliers, diagonal cutters, wire wheel, rebar cutters & benders, levels, squares, plump bobs, hammers, adjustable wrenches, band saws, chop saws, pry bars, hickey bars, electric and pneumatic tools
• Will layout, prepare, erect, and assemble rebar reinforcing structures for pouring concrete and grout
• Verifies accuracy of structure with transit, tape measure, plumb bob, square and level.
• Installs rebar, embeds and wire mesh for foundations, walls, columns, mass structures, elevated structures, structures extending below grade, slabs on grade, tank ring walls, etc.
• Place and tie various sizes of rebar for cast in place and precast wall footings, grade beams, column footings, caps and footing steps as well as slabs on grade, columns, walls, or other structures.
• Installs rebar templates, embeds, and anchor bolts.
• Offloads and packs rebar to appropriate location.
• Installs all appropriate accessories (brick, slab bolsters, chairs, etc.) to support and hold rebar in its correct location.
• Pre-ties rebar for footings, walls, columns, paving or complete foundations when appropriate.
• Installs mechanical splices, anchors, and embeds for miscellaneous metals in correct locations.
• Installs load transfer dowels when required
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment
• May assist in setting concrete formwork and pour and finish concrete and grout
• Installs and sets anchor bolts, templates and embed items
• Must be able to handle and operate small tools (hammers, wrenches, shovels, rakes, come-a-longs, compactors, and various air, electric, and hydraulic power tools) and become proficient.
• Will maintain housekeeping and an orderly site as work tasks are performed
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
• May lead and will always participate in Jobsite Safety Analysis (JSA) meetings.
• Follows direction from supervisor
• Will provide assistance to other crafts and supervision
• Performs other duties as required

Valued but not required skills and experience:

• Former Mason Construction employee
• Formal education/degree/certificate in construction, technical or trade school
• National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification
• Excavation Competent Person training for shoring
• Surveying capabilities
• Basic computer competency

Physical demands:

·         Employees must maintain personal health and physical conditioning appropriate for the safe performance of their assigned duties.

• Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, squat, sit, kneel, stand, walk and work on rough terrain, work at heights, lift overhead as well as push and pull.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
• Employees will also be required to sit for long periods of time for training related to safety, quality, leadership, work practice, and site-specific issues.
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time behind a computer.
• Will talk and listen to communicate.
• Must be able to hear, understand and follow instructions correctly.
• Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 80 lbs.
• Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms. Must maintain 3-point contact.

Work environment:

Due to the nature of most construction projects, the majority of the work will not be shielded from the impacts of weather. Weather will range from warm to extremely hot and usually humid. Occasional cool/cold days and rain. Dusty and muddy conditions may be frequent. At times work will be conducted on uneven terrain, at heights, and near or over water. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, vehicles, materials, and tools. People in the surrounding areas will be standing, walking, sitting, signaling, working, and talking. Bells, horns, whistles, and alarms may sound to alert personnel.
